I have always been taught that the Aleut Tattoos, on the cheeks, are where you are from. I have always had fish hooks on my face when I danced because I was from Sand Point, Alaska where fishing was a way of life. They are also a family design, which is something else I have been taught. My sisters and I have always had the same tattoos on our faces when we danced.
Also most of the young women have tattoos on their chin to show they have hit puberty, or have become a women. The men don't usually have tattoo's on their faces. But this is all I have been taught. I am still hoping to learn more.
