History, Ethnology, and Anthropology of the Aleut

Jochelson, W., & Iokhel'son, V. I. (1966). History, Ethnology, and Anthropology of the Aleut. Washington: Carnegie Insitiution of Washington.

The Author of this book spent one year on the Aleutian Islands, he was the leader of the Ehtnological Division of the Kamchatka-Aleutian Expedition,. This exploration was paid for by the Moscow banker, F.P. Riaboushinsky. Half of the time spent on the Aleutian Islands was for archaeological research. The book, which was republished, was originally ready for the printer in Russia in 1916. It received the Akhmatoff's Prize, but the publication was actually delayed because of the war.
While on the Aleutian Islands this man was assisted by A. M. Yachmenev, who was the Aleut chief of Unalaska, and L. I. Sivtzev , who was the assistant Priest of the Greek-Catholic Church of Unalaska. He was also assisted by other Aleut Elders of other islands. This book is basically about the history of the Aleuts. I would recommend anyone who was interested in the Aleut Culture to read it.
